It was the biggest crocodile Sean Scott had seen all day so he sent out his drone, not realising he might not get it back.

The photographer captured the massive crocodile launch itself at the drone, its jaws snapping mere centimetres from the new Phantom 4.

"Crocodiles are so ancient -- they've been there for millions of years and suddenly there's this electronic drone thing buzzing around," Scott told The Huffington Post Australia.

He was on the Ord River in the Kimberley, WA, having headed out from Hairy Dog's Fishing Camp and said there were crocs everywhere.

"We went out in our little yellow boat and there was a dead cow carcass floating down the river so there were a few crocs on that and a few more further down. They were everywhere.

"But this one guy was huge. I sent the drone over and I was dropping it closer and closer. He was just sitting there so then I flew it right over his nose and that was enough for him to have a go.

"He almost ate it."

Clive wonders whether a new drone tastes better than an old one.
