The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is attempting to verify reports an Australian and American professor have been kidnapped at gunpoint in Afghanistan.
Initial reports suggest that the two professors were abducted outside the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul.
This news comes just days after the Taliban claimed responsibility for an attack on a group of foreign tourists travelling with a British travel company in Western Afghanistan.
The Kabul Police Chief Abdel Rahman Rahimi has confirmed the abduction, ABC America reports.
"The Australian Embassy in Afghanistan is seeking to verify reports of the kidnapping of an Australian in Kabul," the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) said in a statement.
The U.S. State Department has announced that it's aware of the incident but "due to privacy considerations we have no information to offer".
The American University of Afghanistan is the country's only private, non-for-profit, co-educational university and has more than 1700 students.
