If you thought Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence were the ultimate celebrity duo, just think about what Goldie Hawn and Amy Schumer can do together on screen.
Schumer opened up about what it’s like working with her “soulmate” on their new, still untitled movie ― and luring the actress out of a 15-year-retirement ― in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times.
“I met her on an airplane a couple of years ago and told her there’s a movie I really want to make with her,” Schumer said. “And she was very nice. ‘OK, honey.’ She probably thought I was a psycho. ‘OK, crazy person.’”
The entertainer and author of The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo eventually convinced Hawn to star in her movie, where she plays Schumer’s mother.
“My character is supposed to go on this trip South America with a boyfriend. But he breaks up with her,” the 35-year-old said. “And it’s a nonrefundable ticket and she doesn’t want to drink alone. It’s a Goldie Hawn movie and she’s gorgeous. Goldie … Hawn! I don’t remember the first time I didn’t love her!”
It appears the feeling is mutual, as Hawn called her new co-star the “right person” to work with in an interview with ET Online.
“We are on quite a romp together, the two of us ― in the jungle!” Hawn said in May. “It’s just going to be a blast! So that’s what brought me back.”
From the photos Schumer has shared on Instagram, it looks like the two are indeed having an amazing time together:
