According to local newspapers, witnesses reported that three or four people seemed involved in an altercation with another man.
One of the men was reportedly stabbed during the incident and tried to flee in his car. The other men shot at him as he fled, though they only managed hit his car, deflating all of the tyres and shooting out the windows.
The rest of the people involved in the incident then fled in other vehicles.
Police have confirmed that they found a seriously injured 34-year-old man at the scene in a badly damaged white SUV. The man was suffering from stabbing and head injuries.
Investigators also found shattered glass and bloodstains at the scene, and later found several gun cartridge cases nearby. They have begun a homicide investigation for grievous bodily harm into the attack.
A short while later, police questioned a number of people in a local bar near Weidengasse, taking some into custody for further questioning and also seizing two vehicles which police believe may have been involved in the altercation.
Police say that there is currently no evidence to suggest that the attack was terror-related.Suggest a correction
