A man has died and a woman is being interviewed by police following a shooting near a school on the Gold Coast shortly after 2pm on Monday.

Police closed a street in Labrador, Queensland, after they were called to a house on Imperial Parade following reports a shot was fired.

A 43-year-old man was found in the house with a single bullet wound to the chest. Paramedics worked to revive the man but he died of his injuries about an hour later, according to the ABC.

Police closed Imperial Parade and diverted children and parents on their away home from the nearby Labrador State School away from the street.

"A person located at the residence is currently assisting police with enquiries," a police statement released following the shooting read.

Police have since confirmed that the person assisting police is female and is believed to be known to the man who was shot.

"Inquiries are ongoing to establish that relationship, it's probably a little bit early to be able to confirm those details at the moment," Detective Inspector Mark Thompson said.

A weapon was found at the scene of the shooting, Detective Inspector Mark Thompson confirmed.
