A man has been charged after allegedly filling a lubricant dispenser with hydrochloric acid at a Sydney gay and bisexual club on Saturday night.
The Aarows club in Rydalmere was the target of the attack, the ABC reports. It describes itself as a social club with "three levels of adult adventure" on it's website.
The 62-year-old set off alarms on the dispensers, leading to security guards rushing in and allegedly catching him swapping the lubricant for hydrochloric acid. They detained the man until police arrived.
The club had set up security alarms on the dispensers after previous attempts to tamper with the machines.
Hydrochloric acid is a corrosive acid which can cause burns, scars and ulcers.
The man was charged with several offences, including administering poison with the intent to cause injury, distress or pain, and malicious damage.
He has been granted bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court next month.
According to 7 News, the owner identified the alleged offender as a regular client at the night club.
