Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is urging WA Liberals to get behind Premier Colin Barnett

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is rubbing shoulders with the New York power elite and discussing the refugee crisis and the global economy at Leaders' Week at the UN.

But all is not well on the home front, with renewed ructions in the WA branch of the Liberal Party.

About six months out from the WA state election, Premier Colin Barnett is facing a leadership spill on Tuesday brought on by one of his MPs, Murray Cowper.

After just marking a year since toppling Tony Abbott from the top job, Turnbull's advice to WA Liberals: "Unity is everything in politics".

"I'm not going to give other politicians advice on how they manage their affairs," Turnbull told reporters in New York.

"But I think Colin is a great Premier and has been so for eight years."

With recent catastrophic polling for the WA Liberals, two Ministers have resigned from Cabinet and there have been accusation of bullying, intimidation and a loss of purpose.

"The decision of (Barnett's) party room (is a) decision for its members," Turnbull said.

"They all understand what a great leader he has been, what he offers and will continue to offer the Western Australian people and unity is everything in politics."

Over to you, WA Liberals.
