83-Year-Old Woman Bashed In Cowardly Sydney Attack

The woman suffered suspected fractured nose and extensive bruising to her face.

Police are appealing for information after a vicious attack on an 83-year-old woman during an attempted bag snatch at Moorebank, in Sydney's west.

Lorrette Doueihi was allegedly assaulted by another woman while walking along Nuwarra Road at around 8am last Wednesday.

Police say Doueihi was pushed to the ground, as the woman tried to steal her handbag before fleeing the scene unsuccessful.

"Emergency services were contacted and Mrs Doueihi was taken to hospital with facial injuries including a suspected fractured nose and extensive bruising to her face," Police said in a statement.

They are looking for a woman who's described as being between 20 to 30 years old, Caucasian in appearance, wearing dark clothing, boots and carrying a backpack.

Liverpool Local Area Command Crime Manager, Detective Chief Inspector Ken Hardie has condemned the attack.

"This is a cowardly and disgraceful attack on an vulnerable elderly woman. It is a low act and we need assistance from the community to identify the person responsible," he said in a statement.

Police are urging anyone who has been in the area or may be able to identify the attacker to contact Liverpool Local Area Command through Crime Stoppers, 1800 333 000.
