Former AFL premiership winner and Brownlow Medallist Ben Cousins has been arrested for possession of methamphetamine and two charges of breaching a VRO (Violence Restraining Order), various Perth media sources report.

Cousins, 38, will appear in Armadale Magistrates Court on Tuesday. Radio 6PR in Perth reported that Cousins was arrested about 1pm on Monday. They reported he was refused bail and held in the Perth lock-up overnight.

It's the latest in a long line of drug-related incidents for the former West Coast Eagles and Richmond AFL star, who was hospitalised after directing traffic on a Perth bridge in a bizarre incident in July.

In early 2015, he was caught by police inside Perth's Special Air Service Regiment. It was unclear what he was doing inside the secure facility, and he was subsequently taken to hospital where he underwent a mental health assessment.

Cousins' issues with drugs date back to at least the mid 2000s. He was suspended by West Coast in 2007, then went to an expensive American rehabilitation clinic. But later that year, he was arrested for for drug possession and banned from the AFL for a year.

More to come.
