A woman with cancer has had her vital CT scan stolen during a burglary in Victoria's Port Melbourne.

Police say the house was allegedly broken into around 3:40am, while the woman, her husband and four children were sleeping inside.

"Once inside the house, the offenders stole three mobile phones and a credit card, and left the area in the family's Mini Cooper and Nissan Patrol," Police said.

"A copy of the victim's most recent CT scan was in the back of the stolen Mini Cooper."

Police have been told the scan is vital to help doctors determine if the the 41-year-old's cancer has spread.

Police believe that the same white Mini Cooper was also involved in a pursuit in Ballarat, Bacchus Marsh and Melton areas.

They're looking to speak to two white males seen in the vehicles, both of slim build and believed to be in their 20s. One was wearing a white cap and blue Nike jump and the other in a black and grey jumper.

"Police believe another man was involved in the burglary and is described as being aged in his early 20's and unshaven," they said.

Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or they can file a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
