We cringe when Christmas decorations start adorning malls too soon but there's one thing we can all get excited about -- end-of-year public holidays.
For full time workers, those glorious public holidays make a string of leave stretch that much further and for casual workers, public holidays equal extra pay.
This year, Christmas and New Years Eve fall on weekends, meaning additional public holidays are scheduled.
Each state and territory has slightly different days off and if you're in the NT, you may be getting an extra two half days to cover Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.
At a glance, South Australia's got it going on in terms of days off.

*There's a big old asterisk on the NT because currently, the NT Government has announced it will introduce two new half-day public holidays on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve but not everyone is happy.
The Australian Industry Group chief executive Innes Willox said public holidays cost businesses that were open regardless.
"From the Footy Friday holiday in Victoria, to the new Easter Sunday public holiday in Queensland, to the part-day Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve public holidays in South Australia, and Family and Community Day in the ACT –- the situation is getting worse not better," Willox said.
"State and Territory Governments are tripping over each other in the rush to see who can be the most profligate with businesses' money."
If you are working these Summer holidays, here's hoping you've got a Leslie Nope-style Christmas tree decorator on board.
