Gold Coast One-Punch Victim Was Trying To Break Up A Fight

Police said the young man was being a good Samaritan.

A man who tried to break up a fight on the Gold Coast last night is in a critical condition after falling victim to a coward punch.

Police said the man appeared to be trying to break up a fight in Surfers Paradise when he was punched.

"Early investigations indicate the 23-year-old man intervened to stop the fight when he was punched from behind, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement," the statement said.

The two men involved, aged 27 and 29, fled the scene but police found them a short time later.

The man remains at the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
