Mike Baird Poses With Infamous 'Casino Mike'

The NSW Premier's taken a light-hearted approach to anti-graffiti day.

NSW Premier Mike Baird has had a laugh on state graffiti removal day by posing with street art that depicts him as the controversial character "Casino Mike".

Sunday marks official graffiti removal day across NSW, with more than 2000 volunteers banding together to get rid of unauthorised public art and tags.

In a tongue-in-cheek post on his Facebook page, Baird got in on the act by pointing out some street art the volunteers might want to get to work on.

The street mural by Scott Marsh in Sydney depicts the NSW premier as "Casino Mike", a crooked character with a love of gambling but who's very tough on alcohol.

The premier is shown in the mural, painted on a wall in in Chippendale, alongside a stack of casino chips and with a bottle of Penfold's Grange Hermitage in front of him.

In one hand Baird has a glass of red wine and a cigarette, while with the other he grasps a half-eaten kebab -- a nod perhaps to Sydney's restrictions on late-night food vendors, or maybe just referencing the city's love of the middle-eastern snack.

The character emerged in response to the state government's controversial lockout laws, which bar revellers from pubs and clubs after 1.30am, but which exempt the Star Casino.

Marsh was previously responsible for the high-profile mural of US rap star Kanye West kissing himself.
