Beyoncé performed at a Friday rally in Cleveland for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, urging the audience to vote to “create more change.”
After performing “Formation,” Beyoncé took a minute to speak about Clinton’s historic candidacy, referencing a time when “if you were a woman, it did not matter.”
“Look how far we’ve come from having no voice, to being on the brink of making history again by electing the first woman president,” Beyoncé said.
“I want my daughter to grow up seeing a woman lead our country,” she added.
As Beyoncé performed the girl power-anthem “Run The World (Girls),” a screen behind her flashed Clinton’s infamous quote about baking cookies, which prompted massive backlash when she first made the comment during her husband’s presidential campaign in 1992.
Beyoncé also reflected on what President Barack Obama’s presidency has meant to her family, saying she was “so inspired” that her nephew “could grow up knowing his dreams could be realized by witnessing a black president in office.”
“We have to think about the future of our daughters, our sons, and vote for someone who cares for them as much as we do,” Beyoncé said. “That is why I’m with her.”
Clinton appeared at the rally after Beyoncé’s performance, thanking the singer and her husband, Jay Z, for their support. Jay Z, Chance the Rapper and Big Sean also performed.
“I’ve gotta say, didn’t you love the pant suits?” Clinton joked, referencing Beyoncé’s backup dancers’ blue outfits.
