A teenage boy allegedly started a blaze that destroyed at least 7 properties in western Sydney.

A teenage has been charged with igniting a ferocious bushfire that tore through Sydney's west on Friday, destroying at least 7 properties.

The blaze, which has now been contained, started at Cranebrook and spread to Llandilo and Londonderry, burning through around 300 hectares of bushland. It also forced hundreds of residents to evacuate.

About 300 firefighters battled to get the blaze under control on Friday after it sparked near Vincent Road about 2pm. Authorities were assisted by water-bombing aircraft to control the fire.

Police arrested two teenagers over the fire yesterday, but the pair were later released.

A 16-year-old boy has since been charged over the incident, The Nine Network reports.

He has reportedly been released on bail and will face the Children's Court next month.
