It's not often that, in 2016, you can see something that will legitimately surprise you.

This baby koala peeking out of satchel, is definitely one exception.

Police were performing a regular roadside patrol in Brisbane's south when they called a woman back to the station for questioning in relation to prior matters.

When they asked her if she had anything on her, she told them to take a look in the bag.

And they found this guy:

Queensland Police
Um, hi guys.

We have so many questions. Why is this 50-year-old woman riding around with a pet koala in her car? In her bag? Why didn't she bring this to the officers' attention straight away? Can we adopt him immediately?

Queensland Police
Not your average contraband.

The six-month old has been called Alfred and is reportedly in good health, under the care of the RSPCA.

"He's been on fluids but is doing well and will shortly be going out to a carer," said RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty.

"He weighs 1.5 kg and we've called him Alfred."

The title of the police press release read like wild clickbait. But you know what, I really would never have guessed what they found inside this woman's bag. So it works.

In the meantime, please enjoy these pictures of Alfred being illegally cute -- and take special note of him reaching for the keyboard.

Just another night out on patrol.

How is this even a thing.

I have something to say.

Someone set him up with a Twitter account.
