Vice President-elect Mike Pence, top center, leaves the Richard Rodgers Theatre after a performance of "Hamilton," in New York.

A regular Broadway musical doesn't normally end with a personal speech for an attendee -- unless the Vice President-elect is in the audience.

After Friday night's showing of the award winning production Hamilton in New York, performer Brandon Victor Dixon had a message for the Indiana governor.

"You know we have a guest in the audience this evening. Vice President-elect Pence I see you walking out but I hope you will hear us," Dixon said.

"There is nothing to boo here ladies and gentlemen, we are all sharing a story of love. We have a message for you sir, and we hope you will hear us out."

"Vice President-elect Mike Pence we welcome you and we truly thank you for joining us here at Hamilton, an American Musical," Dixon said.

"We, sir, we are the diverse America whom are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our plant, our children, our parents or defend us or uphold our inalienable rights, sir. We truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us."

The crowd applauded as Dixon repeated -- "All of us."

"We thank you for attending this show, a wonderful American story told by a diverse group of men women of different colours, creeds and orientations."

Hamilton is a founding-fathers themed musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It is a mix of hip-hop and musical theatre homages, gaining a record 16 Tony Award nominations this year.

Pence was reportedly booed before the show and the audience reacted strongly to particular lines throughout the night.

Pence has been widely criticised for being strongly anti-abortion and anti equal marriage rights. And because Twitter is Twitter, #Nameapenmusical is now trending.
