A good samaritan who believed he was handing in a piece of evidence in a possible homicide has been left red faced, after the 'breast implant' he gave to police ended up being a jellyfish.
Officers at Maroochydore Station feared the worst when a concerned Sunshine Coast citizen reported a possible homicide.
He presented them with a bagged and tagged circular object that he thought could be a breast implant.
"The man was concerned it was a prosthetic implant from someone who may have been murdered or drowned," Maroochydore Police said in a statement.
"Investigations revealed what police suspected... the item was indeed a jellyfish!"

The man's assumption may not have been completely ridiculous. A mysterious swarm of jellyfish washed up on a New Zealand beach in 2013 and were deemed to have an uncanny resemblance to breast implants, Stuff.co.nz reported.
