Festive tweeters got a little creative at Peter Dutton's expense.

Well, they don't call it the silly season for nothing.

The year is finally drawing to a close and in case you haven't already heard, Christmas is right around the corner. The trees are up, tinsel is out in force and Australians on Twitter are getting a little reflective on all that happened in the last 12 months with a little creative carolling.

Tweeters took aim at immigration minister Peter Dutton and his changes to Australia's refugee policy on Friday using the hashtag #DuttonsChristianXmasCarols to get in the festive spirit and poke fun at some of the more controversial comments he made this year.

Whether it was for the Manus Island and Nauru detention centres or jokes about deportation, popular Christmas carol lines from songs such as 'Santa Claus is coming to town' and 'Away in a Manger' were edited to give them a bit of a Dutton spin.

Check out some of the highlights below.

No word has come from the minister himself regarding the appropriated carols.
