Yowies Are Making A Comeback In Australia In Time For Easter

It's time to restart your Yowie toy collection.

Next year is already looking up because Yowies are set to be back on the shelves by Easter. The foil-wrapped chocolate creatures that contain a capsule with a surprise toy were last seen in the early 2000s.

It's been 10 long, Yowie-less years since we've seen these chocolate marvels, but the legendary Aussie creatures are back in production in the United States thanks to Australian mining engineer Wayne Loxton.

A factory in New York is currently pumping out 110,000 Yowies a day for the U.S. market. Yowser.

Loxton says that Yowies send an important message about protecting the environment. Each Yowie has an endangered animal or Yowie figurine -- guardians of the environment -- inside.

Delicious, adorable and collectible.

The original Yowie characters were designed in the early 1990s by authors Bryce Courtenay and Geoff Pike. Cadbury produced the treats from 1995 with huge success but was forced to pull the products in the mid-2000s after a legal dispute with Courtenay and Pike.

It took seven years for Loxton to get hold of the rights to the Yowie brand. News of the relaunch in the United States has been floating around since 2014, but now Yowies are finally returning home in 2017. Next, world domination.

If their past popularity is anything to go by -- they outsold competitor Kinder Surprise in their heyday -- the critters are sure to leap off the shelves next year.

Make room for your new Yowie collection!
