Tasmanian police have been kept busy over the Christmas break with some animal callouts. On Boxing Day, a massive seal wandered into town and started crushing cars; on Tuesday, police raced to rescue a petrified dog that had gotten stuck on a cliff ledge above a treacherous blowhole.

Grace the spaniel wandered off and found herself just metres from the Devonport blowhole. Police needed to intervene to rescue the dog, with the help of the local surf life saving club, and managed to climb down the cliff face to grab Grace.

"Grace was uninjured from her brief adventure and was reunited with her anxious owner," police said.

Grace didn't look too happy about being out on the ledge, but was much happier on dry land after being rescued.
