Canberra Storm: Parliament House Lawns Have Been Destroyed, Trees Uprooted

A freak storm has swept the state.

The Parliament House lawns had a tumultuous time on Friday afternoon.

Only hours after Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced health minister Sussan Ley's resignation, a freak storm has swept through Canberra.

Trees have been uprooted on the Parliament House lawns, while hundreds of people have called emergency services.

Its been a cool change for the ACT, with the state dealing with hot and windy weather for most of Friday. Authorities had even warned Canberrans of high fire danger.

According to BOM, the temperature dropped from 38.5 degrees to 26.2 within 15 minutes on Friday afternoon.

The wild weather has caused delays on roads and a number of cars have been damaged by falling trees.
