Since televisions first entered people's homes in the 1930s, people around the world have watched successive US presidents take the Oath of Office, the first symbolic step of their presidential reign.

In this one minute video, we see 84 years of history unfold as Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump all recite the oath.
