Pakistan Loses, After The Worst Fielding Performance We've Ever Seen

Social media has been merciless.

It's nice to find positives in life, so we'll try not to dwell on Pakistan's absolutely abominable fielding in the fourth One Day International at the SCG, which Australia won by 86 runs.

Instead we'll focus instead on Australia's excellent batting effort. Australia set Pakistan a massive chase, notching 6/353. Up 2-1 in the five game series, Australia batted first and every one of the top five batsmen reached at least 30.

Pakistan weren't up to it. They looked good for a while , but crumbed to be all out for 267. Recalled Spinner Adam Zampa and Mr Reliable Josh Hazlewood were the bowling stars for Australia with three wickets each.

Look, maybe it won't hurt if we just publish ONE little example of Pakistan's truly abysmal fielding effort earlier in the day, when they dropped seven catches and fumbled countless other balls.

This happened a lot. But like we say, let's talk about the positives, which there were many of from an Australian perspective. David Warner did what David Warner has done an awful lot of in recent seasons, which is to make a big score at the SCG, and fast.

The Aussie opener made 130 off 119 balls, setting a platform which culminated in a breezy 78 off 44 balls from Glen Maxwell, who was out off the final ball. But not before he'd done a lot of stuff like this.

While Maxwell was reverse sweeping, Pakistan was doing the reverse of what pretty much every international cricket team, and every Big Bash team, is doing these days, which is to field exceptionally well.

In fairness, the above clip was embedded in the editorial interests of dispalying Sunday's events with some accuracy. The clip below? OK, so we're just tacking the Mickey now.

As in, the Mickey Arthur. This reaction from the Pakistan coach -- yes, he of the homework gate scandal when he was Australian coach -- says it all.

And it wasn't just dropped catches. Just about any ball hit anywhere was a candidate to be missed, dropped, let through to the boundary, muffed, fumbled or just generally treated like it was a red hot root vegetable covered in spikes.

Oh, you know what? Here's the whole miserable lot of it.

This might have been be the worst fielding performance we've ever seen. And we're definitely not the only people who thought that.
