People dressed in hazmat suits roaming the corridors is probably the last thing one would expect to see on board a luxury cruise liner, however that's exactly what passengers on the Sun Princess were faced with when the ship reportedly suffered its second norovirus outbreak in a fortnight.
The ship docked in Brisbane on Thursday morning with Queensland Health confirming around 140 cases of the gastroenteritis causing infection on board, ABC Radio Brisbane reported.
Kathryn Perrott, a digital producer at the ABC, was on board and witnessed workers in the protective clothing cleaning and disinfecting rooms on board.
"The captain has just announced over the loudspeaker there is a norovirus outbreak on our ship (again), saying cases have increased over the past week," she posted on Facebook.
It was previously reported on Tuesday that Princess Cruises confirmed that on any given day 12 people had been affected on the cruise liner, according to 7 News.
The infection, which is the leading cause of gastroenteritis worldwide, is highly contagious and causes sufferers to have vomiting and watery diarrhoea.
Earlier this month, 90 passengers were affected due to an outbreak of the same virus after the ship completed a 12-day trip to Papua New Guinea.
