Midnight Oil Announces First World Tour In Fifteen Years

The band is back together.

Australian rockers Midnight Oil have announced dates for their first world tour in 15 years. And they're bringing us back to where it all began.

The highly anticipated 'Great Circle 2017' tour, announced aboard a boat on Sydney Harbour on Friday morning, will tour the world for six months, starting and finishing in Sydney.

According to lead singer Peter Garrett, the band has never felt "fresher, nastier or sweeter".

The boys from Sydney's northern beaches broke up in 2002, coming together again only to play a series of charity performances.

In 2004, Garrett was elected as a federal MP and remained in politics for nine years.

"I thought it would be great if it did (happen) but obviously I was involved in other things," Garrett said on Friday.

"We have such a chartered history of making music together and it just feels incredible, walking back into the room."

The tour will kick off in April with an "intimate pub gig" before heading overseas for 30 shows across North America, Europe and New Zealand.

Coming full circle, the band will arrive back in Australia in October for 18 homecoming concerts commencing in Alice Springs. Performing at venues around the country, they'll close the tour at The Domain in Sydney on November 11.

Midnight Oil also unveiled plans to release a remastered box set, 'The Full Tank', featuring all of their existing albums plus over 14 hours of unreleased material.
