Two people have been arrested after a man died from stab wounds in Sydney's west.

Police said the 29-year-old victim, an Irish national, died at the scene on Watson Road Padstow early Saturday morning after suffering a stab wound to the neck.

Emergency services arrived at the scene in the early hours of the morning to discover the injured man outside a home with the fatal wound, police said.

The injured man was treated by paramedics at the scene but couldn't be saved.

In a statement on Saturday morning, police said they were told three women and a man were at the home when another man turned up to the residence and an altercation broke out.

A 36-year-old local man, who sustained minor injuries in the fight, and a 25-year-old Irish woman were arrested at the scene and taken to Bankstown Police Station, police said.

The arrested pair are currently being interviewed by police.

A crime scene has been established and homicide squad detectives are investigating.
