Egg, The Missing Pet Pug, Is Dead

There's been a devastating twist in the search for the missing puppy.

Egg, the pet pug whose disappearance on February 9 sparked a frantic search across Sydney, has died.

The 14-week-old puppy's body was disposed of after dying at his owners home, NSW Police told The Huffington Post Australia.

Police said that the cause of the dog's death is unknown, however there are reports that the puppy choked on a dog treat.

The news comes after police released a statement on Wednesday saying that Egg's owner had been charged with making a false report after claiming that the pug had been stolen at knifepoint by thieves at Sydney Olympic Park.

"The unknown men demanded the man's wallet and backpack, also taking the man's 14-week-old dog, named "Egg", described as a smaller breed black 'Pug'," police said.

"Following investigations, officers from Flemington Local Area Command issued the man a future court attendance notice for false representation resulting in police investigation."

The 29-year-old man who made the false allegations will appear in Burwood Local Court on April 6.
