A siege is underway in Melbourne's north west.

A siege is reportedly underway in Melbourne after shots were fired at police during a drug raid on Monday morning.

A man is said to be holed up inside his house on Levenia Street in St Albans, in the city's north-west, with officers cordoning off the nearby area.

Police told Radio Station 3AW they'd attended the house on early Monday morning to carry out a drug warrant.

A handgun was fired a number of times after police showed up, 3AW reports.

Police are reportedly attempting to speak with a number of people inside the residence.

There are traffic delays in the area due to the police operation.

More to come.
