6 Green Smoothies That Don't Taste Like Grass

100% palatable. Delicious, in fact.

Much like ingesting spirulina or oil pulling, green smoothies are one of those health trains many of us wish we could get on board with, but really have trouble doing so (without gagging and/or vomming).

But what if there was a way to drink green smoothies without dying a little, or feeling like you're eating lawn? Where there's a will, there's a way.

First, let's take a look at why including greens into your smoothies is a good idea.

"Veggies are rich in fibre, micronutrients, polyphenols and antioxidants. Essentially, they're incredibly important for good health and helping our bodies run effectively," accredited practising dietitian Chloe McLeod told HuffPost Australia.

"The way some vegetables digest means they contain prebiotic fibres which provide food for the healthy bacteria found in our gut, improving gut health.

"Really aiming to get that five serves of vegetables a day means you're going to be a much healthier version of yourself."

Although fruit-only smoothies can be an overload of sugar, adding leafy greens like kale and spinach is an easy way to sneak in extra veg and meet those daily targets.

"Yes, whole vegetables are best, but if you can sneak an extra serve or two into your smoothie, it's going to make it a lot easier for you to get all those nutrients that your body is craving," McLeod said.

Keen to give them a go? Here are six green smoothies to try that don't taste like grass. Pro tip: start by adding a small amount of greens and work your way up.

1. Immune booster sweet green smoothie

The 'sweet' part of the recipe is what really makes this smoothie taste amazing and hide the greens' flavour. Vitamin C-packed mango, pineapple and kiwi make a sweet base, while the ginger and lime juice add that fresh tropical flavour.

2. Creamy pineapple cucumber smoothie

This uber refreshing nutrient-rich smoothie combines banana, pineapple and lime for citrusy sweetness, coconut milk for creaminess, and cucumber for freshness. And a sneaky handful of spinach goes unnoticed, seriously.

3. Almond chai green smoothie

If you love chai, this is the smoothie for you. The chai base combines banana, almond butter, chai spices and vanilla, making it the perfect way to disguise baby spinach.

4. Mint chocolate chip green smoothie

If you're drinking something green, you may as well see it as a mint choc experience. This smoothie is loaded with sweet bananas, cacao nibs for that chocolate hit, mint, creamy coconut and spinach.

5. Berry greens vanilla smoothie

If you really can't deal with the greenness of a smoothie, hide the colour entirely with this berry vanilla smoothie. The mixed berry and banana base blends effortlessly in with the spinach, leaving you with a sweet, satisfying not-so-green smoothie.

6. Peanut butter green smoothie

It wouldn't be a good meal or beverage if there weren't an opportunity to sneak in peanut butter. This peanutty smoothie is a delicious blend of banana, almond milk and PB, with some sneaky greens thrown in.
