Ride Collapses Mid-Air Sending People Plummeting To The Ground

9 people were injured in the collapse, including a child who was rushed to hospital, according to reports.

A video has captured the shocking moment that a ride crashed to the ground while in operation at a fairground in China.

The footage shows the swing ride at a festival in Xhie county, in China's north west, dropping without warning on Thursday 9 March, slamming its passengers onto the ground.

Eight adults and a 9-year-old child were injured in the incident, according to reports.

Witnesses said that the iron column holding up the ride collapsed, sending sparks flying and causing the seats to plummet to the ground from a height of five metres.

"Fortunately, it was not completely into its cycle, because if it was it would've been much higher up and more people would have been hurt," one witness said.

The collapse of the ride follows a separate incident at a fairground last month when a video captured the horrifying moment that a 14-year-old girl was thrown to her death after the restraints on a spinning ride broke.

Police are investigating the incident.
