Adelaide Crows Win Historic AFL Grand Final

They defeated the Brisbane Lions in a stunning match.

The Adelaide Crows have defeated the Brisbane Lions 35 to 29 in an incredibly close grand final match on the Gold Coast.

The Lions looked to make a last minute comeback at the start of the final quarter, but the Crows hung on by one goal to create history.

Erin Phillips delivered a standout performance. By the end of three-quarter she notched 28 disposals, six clearances, six tackles and two goals.

Rightfully, she won best on field.

"Massive congratulations to Brisbane," Phillips said.

"What a league it's the best I've been part of. Thank you so much."

By the way, Phillips is also an Olympic basketball player, and she's not the only WAFL player with more than one professional sport up her belt.

Brisbane Lions ALFW Tweeted that the attendance at Metricon Standium was 15610. So, who said no-one wanted to watch women play footy?

While the day was historic -- in that it will inevitably be referenced as a landmark day for women in Australian sport -- the game didn't get the headline spot on Saturday. The grand final was held before the men's game between the Gold Coast Suns and the Brisbane Lions.

Regardless, what a time to be alive.

But will it be an end to default assumptions women aren't into footy? Or worse, that women playing footy just isn't good to watch? Hopefully.
