Consider you kitchen bin at home, for a second. What's hiding in there?
The average bin is made up of 40 percent food, with one in every five bags full of groceries brought into the average Australian home being thrown out.
Australia has a staggering problem with food waste, at both a household and industry level. So, what can we do about it?
For starters, we can start by using our food scraps more wisely at home. Turns out it is (relatively) easy to 'up cycle' them.
Take your fail-safe lettuce. Submerge the roots in some water, leaving the tops above the water line, and spray with water a couple of times a week. A new sprout should be flowering before the week is out.
The same approach goes for onions, garlic, potatoes ... even pineapples. Follow these instructions, and you'll be eating magically re-born food scraps in no time.
