The presenter of the ABC's flagship radio program PM died on Thursday aged 65 after battling a rare and chronic autoimmune disease, Wegeners Granulomatosis, for more than 20 years.
He is survived by his wife Michele McKenzie, who he married in 1987, two sons and grandchildren.
After working for the ABC for more than 40 years, Colvin's friends, family and colleagues took to Twitter to send messages of tribute and support to the respected journalist.

Mark Colvin's journalism was elegant and erudite. In a world of superficiality, he was always informed and honest. We've lost a good man.— Malcolm Turnbull (@TurnbullMalcolm) May 11, 2017
Awful news. Vale Mark Colvin. A gentleman of journalism.— Bill Shorten (@billshortenmp) May 11, 2017
As a long time listener I'm sad to see that opportunity lost to all of us. Vale Mark Colvin. @colvinius— Barnaby Joyce (@Barnaby_Joyce) May 11, 2017
Mark Colvin. To get advice from you was an honour. To get a laugh from you was pure delight. A generous, clever, brave man. Thank you.— Sally Sara (@sallyjsara) May 11, 2017
Mark Colvin had a rare dignity; a deep love of his craft, an intellectual intensity. He matched decency with depth and will be so missed.— Julia Baird (@bairdjulia) May 11, 2017
Fearless #Mark Colvin. Great storyteller, news breaker and top notch interviewer RIP.— Katrina Walter (@fuzzynow) May 11, 2017
So sad. Great journalist. Lovely bloke. So unlucky. Never well after his trip to Rwanda in the 1990s. We'll miss him so much. https://t.co/tg7vAOEifa— Paul Barry (@TheRealPBarry) May 11, 2017

@Colvinius Loved your tweets and retweets. Won't feel as well informed without your Twitter "curation".— Paige Turner (@PaigeTurner1853) May 11, 2017
