Sydney's Taronga Zoo has welcomed the birth of a baby Asian elephant.
Mother Pak Boom gave birth to the the 130 kilogram, yet-to-be-named calf on Friday morning.
Taronga's senior veterinarian Larry Vogelnest told the ABC the birth of Pak Boom's second calf was relatively quick, despite a pregnancy that lasted almost two years.
"It was a very quick and easy birth," he said.
"The little calf was standing within minutes of the birth and suckling within a couple of hours."
Despite her 22-month-pregnancy, Pak Boom was reportedly in labour for just an hour.
Baby boy Boom's birth has brought Australasia's Asian elephant population to 25.
He will be kept in a paddock distanced from the public for a fortnight before making his public debut in an official naming ceremony.
