The Best Historical Instagram Accounts For History Lovers

Instagram doesn't just have to be the territory of Kardashians, #fitspo and pugs in hoodies. Turns out there's a place in the Instaworld for history lovers, too. (And we're not talking about the hashtag #fbf either).

Whether you're into old-school Hollywood shots or outtakes from the world wars, accounts like @historyphotographed, @history and @historycoolkids serve up some pretty cool glimpses into days gone past.

Follow for: A great collection of war pics amassed from several different accounts, coupled with lengthy and informative captions.

A moment of joy -------------------- A smiling artilleryman with the post for his battery, near Aveluy on the Somme, September 1916. For almost every soldier stationed along the front everyday was filled with terror and the possibility of death, with very few things to truly look forward to. For soldiers on both sides receiving mail from home was a god send, it allowed the soldiers to distract themselves from the horrors they faced day in and day out. Something that seems so simple to us today, often times have these men the will power to survive just a little longer. To get home to their families and loved ones. #worldwar1incolor

Home ---------- This famous colorized picture shows a young boy sitting in front of the ruins of his home in London. In his arms he holds everything that's left, his stuffed animal. Toni Frissell, the man who took the photo said the following after the war "I was told he had come back from playing and found his house in shambles - his mother, father and brother dead under the rubble.. He was looking up at the sky, his face an expression of both confusion and defiance. The defiance made him look like a young Winston Churchill."
