UPDATE: Aug. 11 ― On Friday, Amber Heard and Elon Musk released a joint statement regarding their split to People magazine. The former couple set the record straight on the end of their yearlong romance.

“Having read recent articles about our relationship, we would like to speak for ourselves. The distance has been really tough on our relationship, because we haven’t been able to see each other much. All relationships have their ups and downs, of course.

People occasionally send out speculation, which has no basis in fact, without our knowledge, believing that that they have our best interests in mind. Sometimes, other agendas are at work. It can get a little weird… However, we would like to state directly that we have the utmost respect for one another, and it would be troubling if anyone had the impression that we thought otherwise.

As a closing note, it is worth bearing in mind that events are always amplified and dramatized in a high profile relationship, whether the people involved like it or not (and we definitely don’t). The reality is that this is just a normal relationship with a giant magnifying glass applied.”

Heard later addressed their breakup with an Instagram photo of the words “Give” and “Love” written in rose petals poolside. The “Aquaman” actress echoed the sentiments of their statement in her caption, writing that she and Musk “care deeply for one another and remain close.”

PREVIOUSLY: The love story we never quite understood and low-key forgot was even happening has come to an end.

Actress Amber Heard and billionaire businessman Elon Musk have apparently called it quits after dating for a year, according to multiplereports. The two, who first caught our attention last summer while “hanging out” in Miami, apparently fell victim to busy schedules.

“The timing wasn’t good for them,” a source told Us Weekly. “He’s super busy and works all the time. Amber is filming in Australia until October. She’s in no position to settle with him. She feels her career is just starting.”

“They had fun for a few months, but are both very busy with work now. It was getting hard to find time to see each other,” another insider told People. “Elon is working day and night. This is his life and he loves it. He is in no position to be in a relationship right now and ended it.”

The actress has been busy filming back to back projects in the DC cinematic universe, with “Justice League” hitting theaters in November and “Aquaman” set to be released in 2018. Musk, meanwhile, remains at the helm of his companies SpaceX and Tesla.

Heard and Musk sparked dating rumors back in 2016 just months after she filed for divorce from Johnny Depp following a nasty court battle and he had called it quits from on-and-off ex-wife Talulah Riley for the second time.

They went Instagram official in April with dual posts from a dinner in Australia complete with a lipstick kiss on Musk’s cheek.

The same month, the former couple took their love affair around Australia with stops at a wildlife sanctuary and the Sydney Opera House, where Heard shared photos of herself and Musk letting loose with his kids.

On Monday night, Musk confirmed the split in a comment on Heard’s Instagram. The actress shared a photo of herself doing her best Ariel from “The Little Mermaid,” sporting red locks with a fork in her hair.

“Put a fork in it,” she wrote in the caption.

Musk first commented, “V cute,” with a heart emoji, before writing a longer response about the media attention surrounding their split.

“Btw, just to clear up some of the press storm this weekend, although Amber and I did break up, we are still friends, remain close and love one another,” he continued. Long distance relationship when both partners have intense work obligations are always difficult, but who knows what the future holds.”

HuffPost has reached out to Heard’s representatives and will update this post accordingly.
