A technical issue affecting international and domestic flights at Sydney Airport on Monday morning has caused chaos for travellers.
Though the issue has been rectified, Airservices Australia -- the Government body responsible for the airport's air traffic control -- has said that a backlog of flights would have to be cleared before normal operations could resume.
Earlier, Fairfax reported that the systems at the airport were down from about 5:20 am, with a spokeswoman from Airservices Australia confirming that arriving and departing aircraft had been affected.
The delays, which have coincided with the first day of school holidays in New South Wales, have caused headaches for early morning travellers not only in Sydney but around the country with passengers in Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane warned to also expect delays.
Travellers have vented their frustrations on Twitter, with some claiming to have been stuck waiting on the tarmac as the airport scrambles to resolve the issue.

With all airlines affected by the issue, passengers have been urged by carriers to check their flight status online.
