Australian cricketer Shane Warne has been cleared of any wrongdoing by police after claims he assaulted 30-year-old glamour model Valerie Fox.

On Saturday, an allegation of assault in a central London nightclub was reported to Metropolitan Police.

British tabloid The Sun reported that witnesses had allegedly seen Fox fall to the floor clutching her face after an argument with Warne.

A police spokeswoman told HuffPost Australia in a statement that a 48-year-old man was interviewed under caution in connection with the incident and "has since been released with no further action to be taken".

In a statement uploaded to Twitter, the 48-year-old father of three said that he was "shocked to read the media stories" that had emerged alleging the assault.

He added that police "confirmed to me that I have been cleared of the allegation and that no further action will be taken".

"I have fully co-operated with the police, and they have now had the opportunity of seeing CCTV and speaking to witnesses," he said in a statement.

On Saturday, Fox tweeted that she was "absolutely traumatised by tonight's events, being a victim of assault is horrible".

This tweet was followed by a photograph of a police incident card with a caption that Fox said was proof she wasn't lying.

"Just because you're famous doesn't mean you can hit women and get away with it," she wrote.

Fox was earlier this year linked to Brexit campaign leader Nigel Farage, who she met in business class on a Virgin flight.

While she claimed the pair "got hot and heavy through the flight... We were snogging", Farage said nothing untoward occurred and he simply offered the glamour model a lift home from the airport.
