A former A Current Affair reporter, Ben McCormack, leaves Downing Centre court in Sydney.

Disgraced Channel Nine reporter Ben McCormack has pleaded guilty to child pornography charges.

The 43-year-old was charged in April after raids on both his Sydney home and the A Current Affair offices at the Nine Network headquarters in Willoughby, Sydney.

He faced Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday on two charges of using a carriage service to transmit, publish or promote child pornography.

Outside court, McCormack's lawyer Sam Macedone said his client had engaged in "nothing more than fantasy talk."

"I just waned to make it quite clear, that there were never any images that were traded between Ben and anyone else of any child exploitation material," Macedone reportedly told reporters outside court.

"Ben has always admitted to what he's done, however the facts weren't exactly correct."

"Now that has been sorted out, we've entered pleas of guilty and now we're looking forward to our sentencing date."

The charges carry a maximum penalty of 15 years in jail.

He is expected to face sentencing in early October.
