An out-of-control bushfire is directly threatening homes near west Nowra on the NSW south coast.
Telephone warnings have been made to residents, instructing them to take shelter as firefighters battle protect homes.
Motorists are being directed away from the area and an emergency warning for the blaze that is burning near Filter Road and Cavanagh Lane in West Nowra.
"Under these conditions, fires are uncontrollable, unpredictable and fast-moving," the RFS said.
"Embers will be blown up to four kilometres ahead of the fire, creating spot fires that will move quickly and in different directions.
"These spot fires may threaten your home earlier than the predicted main fire front."
There are fears the fires have been deliberately lit.
