Tony Abbott's Daughter Frances Appears In Marriage Equality Ad

"I think it's well known that within my family we have people that sit on the other side of the fence."

The daughter of former Prime Minister Tony Abbott has stepped up her support for same-sex marriage appearing in a new ad for the 'Yes' campaign.

Having previously declared her support in an Instagram post, Frances now talks about her aunt Christine Forster, who is in a gay relationship and at odds with her brother over marriage equality.

"I look at Aunty Chris and I don't think she planned to fall in love with Virginia, it just happened," she said.

"This is why it really just doesn't make sense to me that it's not allowed. To see Aunty Chris marry Virginia -- to do it here in front of friends and family -- it would be so special and I'm so hoping that's something I get to be a part of."

Abbott, who recently posted a photo on Instagram in support of same sex marriage, also referred to her father's firm 'no' stance adding that it was "well known that within my family we have people that sit on the other side of the fence".

"My mother and my father raised me to stand up for what I believe in," she said.

"I posted that picture on Instagram to show that this is what I think is right. In my post I said I'm not interested in politics but this is more than politics. What this comes down to is love."
