If there's ever going to be a perfect example of why you should never celebrate too early -- this is it.
A Thai football player has learned the hard way that, as a goalkeeper facing a game-deciding kick in a penalty shootout, you should probably keep your eye on the ball at all times.
In a crucial cup semi-final match between Bangkok Sports Club and Satri Angthong at Thailand's Queen Sirikit Anniversary Stadium on Saturday, the shootout scores had reached an almost unbelievable 19-19 stalemate.
And while that score alone is pretty impressive, it's what happened on the final kick of the game that will really raise your eyebrows.
At first, it seemed that the player taking the penalty for Bangkok had blasted the ball into the goal's crossbar and missed -- leaving Satri's goalkeeper to tear away running in celebration for having won the match.
The Bangkok player bent over in sheer disappointment after watching the ball rocket skywards, convinced the shootout was finished.
But a game of football ain't over until it's over and some unexpected backspin on the ball saw it drop from above and bounce once, twice, three times -- goal. Game over, Bangkok wins.
To his credit, the goalkeeper did realise his mistake and tried his best to make it back to his goal-line in the hopes of making an incredible save, but it was far too late -- his ensuing look of defeat said it all.
What. A. Blunder.
