A Matildas Star Just Scored This Year's First W-League Goal In 20 Seconds

How's that for a season opener?

Twenty seconds into the season opener of Australia's national women's football league and one of the Matildas' star players had already scored a goal.

How's that for impressive?

Katrina Gorry wasted no time at all in the W-League's opening match for Brisbane Roar at Sydney's Allianz Stadium, finding herself in Sydney FC's goal-box with an easy opportunity to take her team 1-0 up.

Off the back of a strong run down the sideline from the Roar's winger, Gorry pounced on a ball that was knocked back to her from the centre of the box to hammer the ball straight into the net.

And if you think that goals scored from a distance like that are a rarity for a player like her -- you'd be wrong. In the 2016/17 season, Gorry became the only player in W-League history to score three goals from outside of an opposition team's goal-box.

So in other words, she's got one heck of a knack for scoring blinders.

This particular effort makes a lot of sense -- Gorry has recently been kicking butts all over the world with the Matildas, coming off the back of three consecutive wins against Brazil and a victory at the United States' Tournament of Nations.

And if this is the quality Australia can expect from this year's W-League, fans everywhere should be very, very excited.
