Unfortunately For Us, Shane Warne Probably Isn't Going To Be The Next Bachelor

Sad!

On Monday, 'New Idea' rocked the nation with the mind-shattering headline: "Shane Warne is the new Bachelor!".

The news hit us like we had stumbled upon a free, room-temperature seafood buffet; we were amused, excited but definitely terrified of the consequences.

Citing a Ten "insider" and an unnamed source, 'New Idea' went on to give details of the contract currently being negotiated between cricketer Warne and Network Ten to secure his place in the Bach Mansion.

As the story circulated, many people had pretty strong reactions to the idea that the 48-year-old cricket legend could be handing out roses next year.

While it seemed unbelievable at first, the story did make a lot of sense. Warne, whose Twitter bio features the phrase "still single", is no stranger to Network Ten's reality outings, having previously featured on 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!'.

It also would be on the back of a hugely successful season of 'The Bachelorette' starring Sophie Monk, which proved having a celebrity at the helm prompted a ratings boom, and created some of the best moments on TV this year.

Unfortunately it looked like it wasn't meant to be, as Warnie wrote on Twitter later on Monday that the story wasn't true.

So there you have it, unless Warnie is throwing us a curve ball (or the cricket version of that) it looks like his stint as The Bachelor isn't going to happen. It also comes amid hints Monk's third-placer Apollo Jackson would be the next Bachelor, so this might all be a big joke.

Though if you'll remember, Sophie Monk's journey all started with a joke on 'Hard Chat With Tom Gleeson', so who knows what'll happen next?
