The Antipodean experience is much like that of the British: If you need help, we think there must be something really wrong with you. This is why I've felt like I was coming out again in the past few weeks, as after years of hiding, I've finally been telling people: "I'm in therapy".

Most people are shocked when I tell them my homophobic bullies at high school were girls, not other boys.
Not only do I completely reject the idea of LGBT kids trying to physically do violence upon their bullies, the idea that violence is somehow "conditioning" for harder knocks in life further perpetuates this ham-fisted Antipodean belief that if you're given "the bash", it's your duty to bash back.
