Retirement is the final destination of every office worker. For some, it might be storm-like, destroying the calm of their lives. For others, or I shall say wiser people, it brings spring. What is the reason behind such contradictory outcomes of the same event? How can I make my retirement smooth? , you must ask. Here is the answer:

You do not need to count your birth years to know that your retirement is close. Those wrinkles on your face, constant reminders from companies to get life insurance for elderly, invitation to award ceremonies for your decades of service, and increasing bills of health care are enough to remind you that very soon you will be obliged to say goodbye to your professional life. The traditional retirement age is 65 in the United States but some people may retire early depending on their health condition/personal preferences.

Goodbyes are not very nice but, they need not to be very harsh either. We present you a recipe to make a delicious retirement for yourself and your family.

See retirement as an opportunity, not a challenge

The main ingredient of retirement recipe is acceptance. You should see retirement as the beginning, not the end. If your behavior is unwelcoming towards this inevitable life event, life wouldn’t be nice to you either. See retirement as opportunity, rather than a challenge, to spend time with family and do everything that you were not able to do due to lack of time during your workdays.

Plan your finances beforehand

Financial regrets only ruin the taste of retirement recipe. After you retire, the last thing you want is to wish that you had done this and that in past. Invest in your pension plans, invest in life insurance policies, contribute in social security plans, save while you can and collect any penny possible while you are at it. If you have your finances sorted out, rest is easy.

Surround yourself with people

The older you grow, the lonelier you get. All your friends and business partners who promise to be there in need disappear, leaving you to deal with elderly life all alone. But, you being a social animal, need to talk and share your worries, especially when you retire. Your key ingredient here is to find people whom you can trust with your secrets and emotions. In most cases, family play this role. Your happiness after retirement will be determined by the number of legitimate friends and family members you have around you in future.

Cultivate a sense of purpose

Retirement will rip you off of the identity (aka your job) that you have associated to yourself throughout your life. Your goal is to find a new purpose of life; something that interests you and keeps you engaged in the years following your retirement. It could a long lost interest that you didn’t get chance to furnish during your early life. Analysis shows that finding a purpose leads to better health conditions in people over the age of 67.

The recipe is completed by sprinkles of healthy lifestyle and self-motivation. When you combine all these ingredients and challenge yourself, the dish of stratifying retirement shall be ready for you.
