Fun Sized vs. Regular: When It Comes To Candy Bars, Size Matters

But bigger isn't always better.

Halloween is right around the corner, and that means candy. So. Much. Candy. Baskets full of chocolate bars and fruity candy suddenly appear on office desks, they're abundant in doctor's waiting rooms, they even pop up in our homes. The abundance of candy is great on every level, except for one little detail: the candy is wrapped up in fun-sized packages.

Many people think of fun size as a cruel marketing ploy to make people think that smaller candy bars are better than regular-sized ones. We've all heard a person say: "Whoever said tiny candy bars should be called fun size is a moron, right?" Truth is, that guy is the moron.

Bigger might usually be better -- especially when it comes to chocolate -- but it isn't always. And that's most obvious when it comes to Halloween candy. Sometimes, fun sized is better because it improves the ratio of chocolate to filling. Sometimes it's not, because it ruins the delicate balance of peanut and caramel. It's a case-by-case situation, and I broke it down for you.

Of course, this is the opinion of one sole editor on HuffPost Taste and not representative of the ideas and beliefs of The Huffington Post as a whole.

When it comes to Snickers, the bigger the better.
Snickers
Full sized, no question. Actually, it's even better if they're king sized. The fun-sized versions get the chocolate to caramel to peanut ratio all wrong. Valiant effort, but major fail.
2
When something as amazing as Reese's is in question, you NEVER opt for a small size.
Reese's
Never. Also, the original version offers a higher peanut butter to chocolate ratio, and that's awesome. And, there are two of them to enjoy. Double win.
3
Crunch is a gift best served in small packages.
Nestle
The feeling when you pop an entire fun-sized crunch bar in your mouth and feel the crisped rice, well, crunch. That feeling IS Halloween. For that reason alone, fun sized wins -- every time.
4
Something goes wrong when Twizzlers are small.
Twizzler
They're hard. And chewy. And not even really worth eating. Plus, they come individually wrapped in plastic which is just weird.
5
More KIT KAT, more better.
Kit Kat
Nothing about the KIT KAT changes when you come across the fun-sized version except that you get less KIT KAT. Who could ever think that was a good idea?
6
Mounds taste just right in fun size.
Mounds
Tiny mounds are awesome. They're a treasure to be found in the candy basket. Big Mounds bars? Nobody buys those. And the reason is because they are gross. Too much coconut, not enough chocolate.
7
Butterfinger gets it right when fun sized.
Butterfinger
Mostly because the chocolate always melts on your fingers when eating a full sized, and not in a good way. But also because there's less orange filling to stick to your teeth.
8
If you think for a second that smaller is better when it comes to Twix, you might want to get your head checked.
Twix
Getting a fun-sized version of Twix is just cruel. Even the full-sized version isn't enough most of the time. Just sayin'.
