Stop Buying Chai, Because You Can Easily Make Your Own

It's cheaper, too.

Some food and drinks we buy without ever thinking about what they really are. Chai is one of those. Spicy, milky and just the ticket on a cold day, many of us are happy to throw down a pretty penny for a cup. It's time to stop because you are wasting your hard-earned money on a simple medley of spices.

Most of us have all the ingredients to make chai sitting in our kitchen cabinet. Chai is, at its most basic, nothing more than black tea spiced with green cardamom, cinnamon, fennel, ginger and black peppercorn. Some folks add star anise, others clove -- but essentially, you can make a great batch with nothing more than six ingredients. Sure, making your own chai at home may not be as easy as buying one at Starbucks, but just think of all the things you do with the money you'd save.

To make kicking your pricey chai habit a little less challenging, we found a great recipe from food blogger Gimme Some Oven for how to easily make a chai concentrate at home. Having a concentrate in your fridge is great because it can just as easily be turned into a warm milky beverage as it can be enjoyed as an iced one.
