J.J. Abrams Keeps Us Scratching Our Heads About Rey's Parents In 'Star Wars'

We don't even know what to think.

Just when you thought you finally figured out who Rey's parents are in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (Luke, right?!) J.J. Abrams goes all emperor on us, like: "You will find that it is you who are mistaken… about a great many things."

During a Q&A session at the Tribeca Film Festival, Abrams kinda, sorta answered that million-dollar question, seemingly shutting down all those theories that pointed to Luke as Rey's dad.

"Um, Rey's parents are, uh, not in 'Episode VII,'" he said. "So I can't possibly, in this moment, uh, tell you who they are."

Whaaaaaaaaaaat?!

Abrams continued, providing this little non-helpful tidbit: "But I will say that it is, uh, this is all I would say -- it is something that Rey thinks about, too."

The director later clarified his comments about Rey, leaving us scratching our heads even more.

"What I meant was that she doesn’t discover them in 'Episode VII.' Not that they may not already be in her world," he told Entertainment Weekly.

So either Luke really isn't her father, or this is just Abrams' way of tricking us. Maybe he doesn't even know who her parents are yet, and he's just keeping us on our toes. Our brains don't even know what to think.

This article has been updated with additional quotes that Abrams made to Entertainment Weekly after the Q&A.
